The first full weekend of April saw Giant Halifax RT fielding a three rider team of Josh Greenwood, Dylan Westley and Jenson Young at the International Junior tour of the Mendips, the second round of the British Cycling Junior Road Series. It was a hard weekend of racing during which the team never quite got that bit of luck you need to grab a result.
Saturday 7th April saw a short (4.2km) prologue was followed by a 105km rolling road stage, then on Sunday 8th April the action moved into the Mendip Hills for an 81kms stage with three significant climbs per lap.
Josh, in particular, had a good weekend. In the second stage, he took seventh in the main bunch sprint, which came in just behind five riders who were away and contesting the stage win. That gave Josh 12th on the stage. He continued the good work on the final stage, getting in a couple of promising breaks that were chased down just as they began to look dangerous.
Dylan had hoped to use his climbing skills on the final stage, but found himself on an off day, whilst Jenson also worked well all weekend with not a lot of luck. The trio’s efforts were not entirely in vain as Giant Halifax RT took fourth in the team’s competition.

Meanwhile, Max Rushby was racing in GB colours at the Ster Van Zuid Limburg stage race in Belgium. Unfortunately, Max was caught up in a big crash and suffered a small fracture to his elbow. He was rapidly returned to the UK by the GB Team and, although painful, the injury shouldn’t keep him off the bike for too long.
